Latest developments: In-game quick levelling!

Hey all! Today I added a very handy feature that I'm calling "In-game quick levelling". Basically when you're playing a quickmatch and level up you'll now be able to level a skill with a single mouse click! All you have to do is hold ALT and click on the skill icon that displays up the top of the screen.

This replaces the existing skill queue functionality. What's great about this is that it allows you to conveniently adjust your build on the fly according to the other builds you see in the server. You should never need to press ESC mid game anymore to unlock your skills, allowing you to keep on fighting and unleveling skills mid-combat!

Well I started coding 0.7 ages ago, when v0.692 came out. Outbreak is half done, but new game modes always take a long time to add. So I'm putting that on hold very briefly so I can make some balance changes and bug fixes and release a quick new patch to keep things fresh. So v0.693 will be out in a week or 2 and then I'll go back and finish off 0.7 :D

A really neat add-on, but how are we going to select the 33(and more in future) skills available to us on the fly? Also, why remove the queue completely? I still like being able to pre-plan a few skillpoints so I can auto-level mid-battle and access the skill immediately.

We still have the skill qeue functionality and these can be set in the menu as normal, all I've done is replacedthe ingame buttons. You can get these back in the options if you want too. As for the quick levelling, it can display up to 16 skill icons at once and will choose them based on whaqt is most useful for you, as in.. skills you already have, then skills in your tree, tbhen low levels from other trees.

Sounds pretty cool. Will be nice to not have to quit the game to add your skills. Glad to know a version will be out soon

Well, Checkpoint could be done in a day or 2. And weapons only takes a few hours. All that's left to do after that is quickly fix up a few skills (like Dash) and then I'll release. It may be this weekend but I'll say the following one to be safe.

Yes I know it's taking ages. I keep adding new stuff!! But I'm releasing as soon as I finish redoing these skills. If you check the changelog you can see that all I have to do left is the Cyber tree, Rupture and Blackhole.. we're so close! It'll be released within a week I'm sure. Then we can play in a glorious new version of awesomeness! Need to do a bit of advertising too I think so we have enough people to actually playtest all the changes properly.

I know I used to be more active in regards to the whole balancing thing, but seeing as how far the development of the next version has came along, I'm going to hold of suggesting things until then.

Besides, I think you nailed most of the issues STM.

Also, bencelot, could you add some more BBCode to the forums? Most notably, the [center] and [/center] code. It's kind of impossible to center things without it.

The existing issues that is, but if I can't play for an extended period of time on new versions then I can't really say anything.

And ya, some new BBCodes will be nice after releasing the new version. [center] is a nice tag to have, [spoiler] is another exceptionally useful one when you have page-stretch material.

Yapping around that you're pissed off that the new version isn't out yet isn't going to help the version get released any faster. I'd rather you spend that time actually giving help on the skills thread if you want to speed up the release, because right now we are having problems trying to figure out what to do for some of the skills, Rupture especially as we're short on ideas for that one.

I'm going to release v0.693 in about 6 hours. Then you can test as much as you like!

Basically as there are so many changes in this version there will be bugs and balance issues, so I reckon I'll release a very quick v0.694 in a week or 2 after we've all been through the skills and such and tested it all. Feel free to use the skill token reset page and try and go through every single combinations of skills possible. We must TEST and perfect!!

Then I'll release v0.695 which will be a preliminary and very basic version of Outbreak. This will not be very polished, but the basic game mechanics will be included along with the map editor stuff. This will allow map makers to start making maps and the rest of us to comment and improve the gameplay of the new game mode. Then hopefully it'll only be a few weeks after that and v0.7 will be released, nice and polished, tested, balanced and very very fun.

And then good sir.. then we go crazy and advertise to the max, and Subvein will have hundreds of players forever more :D
